Consequences of an unethical decision

 CONSEQUENCES OF AN UNETHICAL DECISION

People have different opinions about war; some people think it is necessary and others think it is not. In my opinion a war is an unethical decision which brings social, economic, and emotional problems, not only to soldiers and their families, but also to many innocent people living in countries of conflict. In the Iraq-U.S. war, the U.S. tried to bring justice to the world by trying to capture Saddam Hussein and his followers, but it actually caused a lot of injustice to the Iraqi and to the world. In the process of capturing the enemies, the U.S. caused many innocent people to die, and many people to live with psychological and emotional problems for the rest of their lives.
In the social aspect, war interrupts innocent family lives. Besides the many innocent deaths, the lives of those who survive are destroyed. Family lives are not the same anymore. For many Iraqi people, their culture and traditions are being corrupted. Women are now obliged to forget about traditional customs, and take the men’s role. Sometimes, men are killed or badly injured, so women have to start working to support their family. Infrastructures, such as schools and hospitals, are destroyed, so kids’ education is delayed and sick and injured people are left with no place to be treated or cured. According to a report by UNESCO on March 2003, said that the education system in Iraq, prior to 1991, was one of the best in the region, with over 100 percent gross enrollment rate for primary schooling and high levels of literacy, both for men and women. After U.S. invasion, some 84 percent of Iraq’s institutions of higher education have been burnt, looted, or destroyed. Nowadays, the current Iraq’s school curriculum is a U.S.-crafted curriculum. This shows that a whole culture has been violated and these people are being subjugated to follow another type of mentality. According to an article by the United Nations on 2005, the war in Iraq and its aftermath have almost doubled malnutrition rates among Iraqi children. Jean Ziegler, the UN Human Rights Commission’s special expert on the right to food on 2005, said that more than one-quarter of Iraqi children don’t have enough to eat.
In the economic aspect, war could have a negative impact in a country’s economy. Governments invest a lot of money in wars, in order to stock up with weapons, food, clothes, and medical supplies necessary for soldiers to survive in the war. Soldiers also need to be paid a salary and need to be provided with means of transport. If the country involved in war is a powerful one, such as the United States, the negative impact could also affect other countries that maintain close ties with it. According to a New York Times article, “The Economic Cost of War,” from February 28, 2009, the cost of overseas conflicts, mainly in Iraq and Afghanistan has been $144 billion in fiscal year 2009, $130 billion in 2010, and a $50 billion estimate for 2011. According to the Center for Defense Information, the estimated cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will reach $1.29 trillion by the end of fiscal year 2011. In October 2009, the Congressional Research Service, which is a division of the Library of Congress, estimated that it costs $390,000 a year to sustain each American trooper overseas. Governments usually finance wars through higher taxes and government debt. This debt is mostly in the form of treasury securities, which are sold to the public in exchange of the principal accompanied by a specified interest rate. The United States currently has a debt of over $14 trillion, nearly two-thirds if this, is in the form of public debs owed to the people, business and foreign governments who bought treasury securities.
War does not only bring emotional and psychological problems to soldiers and their families, but it could also affect several innocent citizens in the war zone. Soldiers must stay away from their family and friends for long periods of time. They undergo a very rigid training in order to learn how to survive in the most dangerous and precarious circumstances. War is a constant emotional struggle and results in severe mental stress. Soldiers end up suffering post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD, which is characterized by symptoms such as nightmares, irritability, sleeplessness, and difficulty concentrating. The report “Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Depression in Battle-Injured Soldiers,” issued by the American Journal of Psychiatry in 2006, indicates that a large number of returning soldiers suffer from this disorder. Researchers found that among battle-injured soldiers, at one month of their return home, 4.2 percent had probable PTSD and 4.4 percent had depression; at 4 months, 12.2 percent had PTSD and 8.9 percent had depression; at 7 months, 12.0 percent had PTSD and 9.3 percent had depression. This study indicates that this psychological problem is not temporary, but could progressively aggravate.  Without adequate counseling and care, war veterans who experience PTSD often do not marry nor have children due to their traumatic experiences. Many innocent lives become casualties of war, and many innocent people’s homes are destroyed. According to a BBC News article in 2006, there is an estimated 655,000 Iraqis who have died since 2003. John Hopkins researchers estimated that mortality rates have more than doubled since the invasion to overthrow Saddam Hussein, causing an average of 500 deaths a day. In 2006 alone, 34,452 Iraqi civilians were killed and more than 36,000 hurt. This creates psychological and emotional problems to innocent people that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Many innocent people probably lost close family members and friends in traumatic ways, and their lives will never be the same.
In conclusion, I believe that wars always produce more harm than good. In the case of the Iraq-U.S. war, the U.S. unfairly took advantage of its powerful position in the world, and decided to invade Iraq and kill many innocent people and destroy many family lives. The U.S. violated the Iraqi culture, and tried to impose its mentality in this country. As a result of this war, Iraqi’s society was severely disrupted, and the lives of many Iraqi will never be the same. Education, the backbone of any society, was damaged by the destruction of its schools. Also, this disruption led many Iraqi kids to have physical and psychological problems, which could stay with them for the rest of their lives.

ABORTION: EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL CONSEQUENCES

The basic concept of abortion is, to kill to an innocent human being’s inalienable right to live. Abortion is murder; it is also an intentional termination of a pregnancy without justification. On the other hand, it is a big decision that the women make in their lives. Abortion not only has physical effects also has physiological effects and can traumatize their lives forever. Additionally, in some countries laws exist, that protected abortion. For example in the United States, abortion is legal, but the regulations change according to state.
A post-traumatic stress is very common and differs from woman to woman. Abortion frequently causes intense emotional and psychological complications. Emotional problem, such as, regret, anger, quilting feelings, shame, loneliness or isolation, insomnia or nightmares, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, depression, anxiety following an abortion. Women with religious beliefs, moral or ethical position that conflict with abortion. Statistics show that twenty percent of the women who had abortions later attempt suicide. Drug and alcohol increase four times, ninety-eight percent of women repented having had an abortion. Seventy-two percent of women said their abortion did not improve their life, twenty percent of women reported a nervous breakdown, and ten percent were hospitalize for psychiatric care. Of the two hundred and sixty women surveyed, over sixty percent said their abortion made their life worse.
Additionally, an abortion often comes with several physical complications, such as, blood loss, infection, and internal and external hemorrhage. There could also be anesthesia complication which could sometimes cause death.  According to the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, new studies have shown that abortions increase the risk of breast cancer by fifty percent. This is due to the fact that by abruptly terminating pregnancy interrupts the natural growth process of breasts. Abortion could also create complications in future pregnancies, such as, premature births, ectopic pregnancies, sterility, and permanent damage to the cervix.
In the United States the abortion is legal. Abortion is one hundred percent confidential, unless the patient is under eighteen. The Constitution said “It allows a woman to choose her destiny and prevents unwanted children.”  The Supreme Court established in 1973 that the right to have an abortion is protected by the U.S. Constitution. Abortion is legal up to 22 weeks and in some states is up to 16 weeks. President Obama’s executive order will not protect the unborn. The statistics show, the number of abortions per year in a world is approximately 42 million and 115,000 per day. Only in the United States, the number of abortions per year is 1.3 million and 3,700 per day.
As I mentioned, abortion is the act of taking human life. I think no civilized society could permit this kind of act. Abortion is a violation to the civil right of a human, because for me a fetus becomes a living human from the moment of conception. If the mother could see an ultrasound they will see an embryo at the presence of external members as well as internal organs. Women could see a living child living inside them. We live in a free society without values or ethics. Although we have many means of contraception, women have sex without responsibility and without considering the consequences of their actions. Why a person who kills another human being is imprisoned and why abortion is not considered a crime and no one goes to jail for these murders.

Battle of the Cowhed

BATTLE OF THE COWSHED

By the late summer the news of what happened on Mr. Jones’ farm had to spread half of country. Snowball and Napoleon had sent every day the pigeons with the information about the story of the Rebellion and the song of “Beasts of England.” While Mr. Jones was telling everybody about injustice he had suffered, some of his neighbored were sympathized with him, but the others were happy because he lost his fortune and that give them advantage. Furthermore farmers called Mr. Pinchfield and Mr. Fredericktried were working  to prevent this rebellion in their own farms and convinced the animals this rebellion that bring them negative effects, as that the animals practiced cannibalism, tortured one another, etc. However when farmers listened the song “Beasts of England”, they secretly trembled. In the early in October Mr. Jones and his men, with 6 more others were heading to Animal Farmer. They were carrying sticks, except Mr. Jones, who was carrying a gun and tried to recapture of the farm. After a hard battle when Mr. Jones almost won this battle, the animals were excitement, because they could defeat the enemy. After sung the “Beasts of England”, they gave solemn funeral to the sheep, who death in the battle. Snowball emphasized all animals the need to fight hard and die for Animal Farm. Also the animal created a military decoration “Animal Hero First Class” which was given to Snowball and Boxer. The second called “Animal Hero, Second Class” was given posthumously on the dead sheep. Each October 12th was the anniversary of the Rebellion called “Battle of the Cowshed.

BAHAMAS: A BEAUTIFUL PLACE FOR VACATION

BAHAMAS: A BEAUTIFUL PLACE FOR VACATION

Five years ago, my daughter and I with some friends traveled to Bahamas, an exotic place with beautiful beaches. I love the Caribbean, and I think Bahamas is one of the most beautiful places over there. Bahamas is located in the Atlantic Ocean, East of Florida, North of Cuba, and the Caribbean, which give this island a subtropical climate. Further more Bahamas became a British crown colony in 1718, and its diversity consists of a large number of immigrants from Haiti, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Bahamas consists in 700 islands and about 8000 British loyalties moved to the Bahamas in the late 1700s from New York, Florida and the Carolinas.
Our trip to Bahamas started when we took a plane from Newark Liberty Airport with one stop in Miami to land at the Grand Bahamas Island. It took us five hours to get there. When we left the airport, our first impression was a Caribbean city with a gorgeous blue sky and a magnificent tropical weather. Our surprise was when we noticed that cars had the steering wheel on the right site, and the streets ran in the opposite direction than in the United States. The Grand Bahamas has a population of 40,898 people. In Bahamas, has a lot of British influence in its infrastructure.
When we arrived at to the ocean front hotel, we were able to enjoy the wonderful and clean-white Caribbean ocean. At a nearby town named Lucaya we were able to enjoy casinos, night-time entertainment and great food.  We had the opportunity to enjoy a major cultural event called Jankanoo. This festival recognized as a special time in the history of Bahamas. During the Pre-Emancipation era, the Jankanoo festival was created by the slaves. The annual festival consists of a three-day parade, where natives dance in colorful handmade costumes. On the other hand the activity that we enjoyed the most was snorkeling. This adventure began early in the morning; when we aboard a big yacht, where they served grilled sandwiches and soft beverages. The yacht stopped in the middle of the ocean so everybody could get into the water under supervision of an instructor. We had the occasion to enjoy the most amazing view of the ocean, where colorful fish and corals surrounded us. Fish feeding was also an excitant experience for us because we felt like we were inside an aquarium surrounded by exotic creatures.  After having spent seven days in this paradise we came back home with unforgettable memories.
Bahamas is one of the most popular islands in the Caribbean and a wonderful place, where you can spend an exciting vacation, forget all life stresses and end up rejuvenated. I do not hesitate to recommend my friends to visit this marvelous island.

Terrorism in Peru

TERRORISM IN PERU

In Peru, in the eighties was an age of terror around the country. My country went through a difficult time with the terrorism. The Sendero Luminoso and Movimiento Revolucionario Tupac Amaru (MRTA) were the principal groups that causing terror, desolation and death. The result was about 30,000 people death and economic losses over 26,000 million of dollars. More than 10 years, Peruvians lived a wrong ideology. Communist leader Abimael Guzman unleashed an armed conflict against the Peruvian state and the society, committing serious crimes against humanity.  Many people died when bombs exploded in buildings, government offices, private business, media, small farmers, public services among others. Abimael Guzman University professor in Ayacucho city began to communism ideology alienation among students and professors. It was growing through professionals and intellectuals, teachers and leaders of rural and peasant associations. It not discriminate neither rich nor poor. Ayacucho is considered the cradle of terrorism; it is located in the central southern highlands, agricultural land with a pleasant climate, warm and dry, with blue sky and bright sun permanent, which is characterized by a persistent air spring, giving generous healthy climates. The leader Abimael Guzman was captured in an exclusive residential area of Lima in the midst of opulence, surrounded by his dome and intellectual people while their followers lived in a deprivation of their rights and needs.  He was shown to the world in a cage by the media as a man put in prison, with a black and white striped jail uniform. His look and attitude showed a true leader, but defeated. Now is convicted for life in prison. Listen
Read phonetically
In conclusion, I think that this ideology was a fact of convenience and power. Contrary to the idea that this insane group tried to put into the minds of Peruvians, “this fight would be the struggle of peasants and industrial workers against the exploiters, both the Governor.”

Learning how to create a blog

Now, I am learning how can use the blog in my Reading class. I think it is very important for everybody to introduce  a new technology.
